The Chishawasha Orphanage
We met Kathe Padilla in 2003 and she told us of her plans to move the orphanage from a very small rental property in Lusaka (15 children) to a facility she hoped to build on an acreage just outside of the city.
In 2004 we drilled a well for her and as a result she was able to raise sufficient funds to build two residences and put up a temporary school.
Since then we have built five additional residences for the children.
And in 2009 we had the grand opening of the Colin B. Glassco Primary School a twelve classroom school block we built for them.
The school not only provides the 80 orphanage children with a primary school education but will also look after all of the children from the neighboring village( 60). These children are provided with the clothes they require as well as two very much needed meals per day.
And as it is important to also give the children useful skills an extensive program has been set up to teach sowing, carpentry, gardening and computer skills.
